All children who are a part of Rhee Tae Kwon Do (Victoria) have a right to feel and be safe. The welfare of the children in our care will always be our first priority and Rhee Tae Kwon Do (Victoria) has a zero tolerance to child abuse. Rhee Tae Kwon Do (Victoria) aims to create a child safe and child friendly environment where children feel safe and have fun. Rhee Tae Kwon Do (Victoria)’s activities are always carried out in the best interests of the children. We are committed to child safety.

Parents

Your responsibilities are to:

  • Treat all children respectfully, and in accordance with Australian child protection legislation;
  • Act with respect to all students and instructors
  • Ensure children are participating in a safe environment (both physically and emotionally). For example, do not allow children to train when injured or fatigued. 
  • Respect children’s concerns or feelings in relation to participation in Rhee Tae Kwon Do. For example, do not force them to train or participate when they don’t want to;
  • Understand our policies and reporting processes in relation to child protection and/or safeguarding;
  • Respond and report if you witness or suspect any situation that has harmed or may potentially harm a child;
  • Be a positive influence in the creation of a child safe environment at all of our Dojangs and events.

Instructors

Your responsibilities are to:

  • be committed to child safety and treat all children respectfully;
  • provide a safe and inclusive environment for children to train and participate in;
  • listen to children and include them in discussions including those relating to how to develop a safe and inclusive child safe environment;
  • comply with all obligations you may be subject to under Australian child protection legislation including Mandatory Reporting or requirements for a Working with Children Check (or similar screening measure);
  • understand our child safe practices and policies (which set out expected standards of behaviour) and comply with them at all times:  including but not limited to: sexual misconduct, establishment or blurring of professional boundaries, use of language and tone of voice, positive guidance, supervision, use of electronic or online communications, photographing children, physical contact with children, overnight stays, change room arrangements, use of, possession or supply of alcohol or drugs and transporting children; 
  • immediately report any concerns or allegations if you witness or suspect any situation that has harmed or may potentially harm a child;
  • proactively undertake child protection or safeguarding training in order to raise your awareness and to enable you to proactively identify and deal with any problems or situations;
  • be a positive influence, and/or voice for change, in the creation of a child safe environment at your club or sporting organization;
  • make sure that your actions always contribute to a child safe environment.
Students

Your responsibilities are to:

  • As a student of Rhee Tae Kwon Do, you are responsible for treating other students and instructors with respect. You may see or hear things that instructors, parents and others may not. Speaking up about any situation that you feel is harmful to a child will help make sure that all students can feel safe to enjoy their Tae Kwon Do.
  • Also, be committed to child safety as are parents and instructors
  • Abide by the Rhee Tae Kwon Do Pledge and Tenets
